Pokémon Bulk Value: What Are Common Cards Worth (and What to Do)?

What is Pokémon bulk worth? How to sort commons, uncommons, reverse holos and energy, find hidden value, and sell bulk to shops, buylists or as lots.

"Bulk" is the hobby's word for low-value cards: the commons, uncommons, energy and ordinary rares that make up most of every pack. Individually they're worth cents. In quantity, and sorted properly, they can still be worth something, and every bulk box can hide a few real cards.

What counts as bulk

  • Commons and uncommons from modern sets
  • Basic energy cards
  • Non-holo rares and ordinary holo rares from recent sets
  • Reverse holos of commons and uncommons
  • Played or damaged cards from any era

How bulk is usually priced

Shops and buylists often pay by count or by weight, with separate rates for:

  • Commons/uncommons (per thousand)
  • Reverse holos and holos (per card)
  • Ex/V/GX and other "ultra" cards (per card)

Rates vary a lot between shops and change over time, so ask around.

Find the hidden value first

Before selling anything as bulk, check for:

  • Secret rares (number higher than the set size)
  • Full arts and illustration rares (illustration rares)
  • Popular Pokémon commons in great condition from older sets
  • Trainer cards that are popular in competitive play
  • Vintage cards (1999–2003), even commons (vintage cards)
  • Promos and stamped cards

Scanning a sample of each pile helps you learn what's valuable in the sets you have.

Ways to sell bulk

  1. Local game or card shop: fast and easy, lowest price (selling to a card shop)
  2. Online bulk lots: e.g. "1000 Pokémon commons", with photos and honest descriptions
  3. Buylists: some marketplaces buy specific cards at posted prices
  4. Set completion: sell sorted sets to collectors working on them
